CURRICULUM

We have small class sizes, professors committed to their students as well as to their scholarship, and opportunities for students to conduct historical research in topics of interest to them. Students take a series of survey and methods courses, and then get to choose among a broad selection of content-area courses, from Ancient Greece and Rome to Modern Asia and Modern America.  Students complete their history major by writing a senior thesis. Working closely with one of their professors, students develop and write a research project on a subject of their choosing. Some of our majors want to teach. We prepare those students for graduate school or to pursue a career as a high-school history teacher through our history-education major. However, most history majors do not teach but go into a wide range of fields like law, business, government, and non-profit organizations and end up earning salaries competitive with business- and many other pre-professional majors.
