Dr. John Alpers is the dean of the School of Business, Education and Sport. He will supervise the assistant deans for the Education and Sport Studies divisions and continue in his role of leading the Business Division. Dr. Alpers also serves as a business professor
Dr. Alpers comes to Tusculum with more than 20 years of teaching experience. Prior to joining the Tusculum family, Dr. Alpers’ classroom résumé included teaching at Carson-Newman University, Strayer University, the University of Phoenix and Tennessee Wesleyan University, all as a business professor. He also has 27 years of experience in business. He worked for Clayton Homes/Vanderbilt Mortgage and Marriott Business Services and served as a consultant, mostly with small businesses in the Knoxville area.

Dr. Sarah Hartman serves as a member of Tusculum’s Office of Academic Affairs leadership team and works closely with the university’s provost, other deans and faculty members to achieve the institution’s goals. She leads areas such as course scheduling, faculty workload management and credentialing, operational budgets and academic policies and procedures.
She is also Dean of the Education Division, which prepares students for bachelor’s and master’s degrees that empower them to succeed in the classroom and in administrative positions. She oversees the faculty and curriculum development and collaborate with local school systems and other partners to strengthen the division.
Dr. Hartman has a bachelor’s in child and family development from San Diego State University; a master’s in elementary education, K-8, from Alabama State University; and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction for elementary education from the University of Alabama.
