The procedure for cleanup of individual spills is dependent upon the amount of oil released.\u00a0 Please see the below for the response to each spill type.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3>Spills of 25 gallons or less<\/h3>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<ul>\n<li>Spills of 25 gallons or less may be handled by campus safety.\u00a0 Each campus safety vehicle will have a spill kit in it that can handle up to 25 gallons.\u00a0 The instructions with the spill kit will be followed and all used spill cleanup materials will be placed into a plastic bag and or drum, labeled as hazardous waste \u201coil spill cleanup\u201d, and will be added to the Hazardous Waste Inventory by the CHO.<\/li>\n<li>The EPA Coordinator will be alerted to the spill so that proper paperwork and reports can be made.\u00a0 A copy of the Spill Incident report form to be used can be found in Appendix D<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-more\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show more<\/span><\/a><\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-less\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show less<\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Spills of 26 gallons to 100 gallons<\/h3>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<ul>\n<li>Spills between 25 and 100 gallons will need to have campus safety contact the SPCC team leaders for facilities management so that the University\u2019s Spill Response team can respond and clean up the spill.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Facilities management will have a large spill kit that they can respond with that is capable of cleaning up 100 gallons of a spill.\u00a0 The instructions with the spill kit will be followed and all used spill cleanup materials will be placed into either a plastic bag(s) and \/or into a 55-gallon drum and will be added to the Hazardous Waste Inventory.<\/li>\n<li>EPA Coordinator will be alerted to the spill so that the proper paperwork and reports can be made.\u00a0 If the spill exceeds 25 gallons; the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) must be alerted.\u00a0 A copy of the Spill Incident Report to be completed at the time of the incident can be found in Appendix D.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-more\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show more<\/span><\/a><\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-less\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show less<\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Spills over 100 gallons<\/h3>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<ul>\n<li>For any spill over 100 gallons Tusculum\u2019s Spill Response team is not properly trained to handle and the local fire department will be contacted for help in large scale clean up.<\/li>\n<li>EPA Coordinator will be alerted to the spill so that proper paperwork and reports can be made.\u00a0 A spill of greater than 100 gallons will require contacting TDEC and this shall be the responsibility of the EPA Coordinator.\u00a0 A copy of the Spill Incident Report to be completed at the time of the incident can be found in Appendix D.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-more\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show more<\/span><\/a><\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-less\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show less<\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>If there is a risk of injury during clean up to a member of the Tusculum University\u2019s spill response team such as fire or explosion all personnel shall be cleared from the area and the local Fire Department will be contacted.<\/p>\n<p>If the discharge is ongoing, trained spill response personnel shall do what they can to limit the severity of the release and apply the guidelines above to clean up.<\/p>\n<h3>SPILL RESPONSE KIT &amp; EQUIPMENT<\/h3>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<p>For each location on the Tusculum campus that has petroleum products on the SPCC inventory will have \u201coil dry\u201d located in each area that can be used to contain oil spills until the SPCC Team can arrive on scene.<\/p>\n<p>Official Spill Kits located on the campus will consist of 2 vehicle spill kits capable of cleaning up 25 gallons and will be found in the vehicles that campus safety utilize.\u00a0 A larger spill kit that is capable of cleaning up 100 gallons of spilled petroleum product will be stored at facilities and will be dispatched once a spill occurs that requires activation of the Spill Response team.<\/p>\n<p>For spills on the Tusculum campus the spill response team may be asked to initiate containment\/cleanup procedures; depending on size of the spill.\u00a0 Appropriate personal protective equipment will be donned and the proper clean up materials (i.e. booms, absorbents, etc.) utilized.\u00a0 Once a spill has been cleaned up the spent material becomes hazardous waste and must be reported to the Chemical Hygiene Officer for addition to the hazardous waste inventory.\u00a0 Spent absorbent materials should be placed in a plastic bag\/drum\/barrel to be stored at the IPF, Indoor Practice Field, until disposal can be arranged by the CHO.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of a large oil release efforts should be made to prevent spread of the oil spill by use of absorbents, etc. until an emergency response team can be contacted to take over the spill cleanup.<\/p>\n<p>Each SPCC Spill Kit will be examined each month by campus safety to ensure that they the spill kit is still in the correct location.\u00a0 A form for this inspection can be found in Appendix D.\u00a0 Once the inspection form is completed a copy will be sent to the EPA coordinator to show that the oil spill kits are where they should be.\u00a0 If a spill kit is found to be missing or damaged then the EPA Coordinator will contact Facilities Management to get a replacement kit.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-more\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show more<\/span><\/a><\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-less\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show less<\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<h3>SPILL REPORTING<\/h3>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<h4>REPORTING REQUIREMENTS<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Petroleum Products released onto land must be reported to TDEC under the following conditions:\n<ol>\n<li>Any release that exceeds 25 gallons must be reported within 72 hours of discovery<\/li>\n<li>A release less than 25 gallons that is not contained and cleaned up within 72 hours of discovery must be reported immediately<\/li>\n<li>Any suspected leak must be reported within 72 hours of discovery<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Petroleum Products released into water that causes a sheen on the water way must be reported within 72 hours of discovery<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>REPORT PROCEDURE<\/h4>\n<p>When reporting any discharge that occurs on Tusculum University you are to be prepared to answer questions as thoroughly as you can.\u00a0 The following is a sample of information that might be asked of you<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Name, location, type of facility<\/li>\n<li>Name of facility representative and phone number<\/li>\n<li>Name and phone number of person making report<\/li>\n<li>Type and estimated amount of material discharged<\/li>\n<li>Description of the Area where the discharge occurred<\/li>\n<li>Date and time of discovery of the discharge<\/li>\n<li>Note any water ways involved in the discharge<\/li>\n<li>Injuries of property damage associated with the discharge<\/li>\n<li>Duration of the discharge<\/li>\n<li>Remedial action taken by the facility (including equipment and repairs made)<\/li>\n<li>Agencies notified of discharge<\/li>\n<li>Maximum storage (on hand capacity of the facility)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>All discharges on the Tusculum University campus are to be reported to the EPA Coordinator.<\/li>\n<li>Potential authorities to contact in the event of\n<ol>\n<li>If danger of fire or explosion exists &#8211; <strong>911<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If the discharge moves off of Tusculum University property &#8211; <strong>911<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If significant emergency situation &#8211; <strong>TEMA 1-800-262-3300<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If 25 gallons or more of oil spill occurs &#8211;
