{"id":663,"date":"2020-02-12T13:14:30","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T18:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.tusculum.edu\/safety\/?page_id=663"},"modified":"2020-02-12T14:51:23","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T19:51:23","slug":"discharge-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.tusculum.edu\/safety\/environmental-health-safety\/spills\/spcc\/discharge-info\/","title":{"rendered":"DISCHARGE INFORMATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>DESCRIPTION OF PREVIOUS DISCHARGES<\/h3>\n<p>Tusculum University has had no reported discharges of oil to date.<\/p>\n<h3>POTENTIAL DISCHARGE INFORMATION<\/h3>\n<p>The following is a list of the potential oil discharge scenarios that could occur on the Tusculum University campus.<\/p>\n<h4>\u00a01.<span> KITCHEN LOADING AREA<\/span><\/h4>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<p>The Kitchen Loading Area contains a waste grease storage container, with 250 gallon of used cooking oil in it.\u00a0 This oil is collected from the operation of the cafeteria and Chick-fil-A by Chartwell on the Tusculum campus (see appendix B).\u00a0 The used cooking oil container does not have secondary containment but is located on asphalt that will serve as a deterrent to absorption of any spilled oil into the soil.\u00a0\u00a0 A spill kit and fire extinguisher is located inside the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Potential Discharge Causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Due to failure or leak in the container<\/li>\n<li>During cooking oil transfer operations<\/li>\n<li>From vehicular collision with the drum<\/li>\n<li>Result of vandalism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Potential Discharge Volume:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A potential discharge from the used oil could result in 250 gallons of used kitchen grease being released.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>Discharge Pathway:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>A small discharge could be contained on the concrete<\/li>\n<li>A large discharge could run off of the concrete and into the roadway, Shiloh Road, and could possibly enter a sewer or storm water system<\/li>\n<li>Any discharge spilled on the grade would drain off of the parking area into a ditch that leads to the wetlands area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-more\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show more<\/span><\/a><\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-less\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show less<\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<h4>2.\u00a0 FACILITIES MANAGEMENT<\/h4>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<p>The facilities management complex contains 2 containers of oil; one is an ABST, Aboveground Storage Tank, with 500 gallons of diesel in it and the other is an ABST with 270 gallons of gasoline in it.\u00a0 These tanks are located within a shed behind the Facilities Management building (see Appendix B).\u00a0 The shed has controlled access into the building by a lock on the door.\u00a0 The tanks have secondary containment in the form of a concrete basin and the roof of the shed prevents water from entering the secondary containment basin.\u00a0 A spill kit and fire extinguisher is located in the facilities management office building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Potential Discharge Causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Due to failure or leak in the container<\/li>\n<li>During tank filling operations<\/li>\n<li>Hose rupture, tank rupture, equipment\/pipe failure, or overfilling<\/li>\n<li>From vehicle collision<\/li>\n<li>Carelessness or accident during fueling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Potential Discharge Volume:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A potential discharge in these fuel tanks could result in 270 gallons of gasoline and 500 gallons of diesel being released.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-more\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show more<\/span><\/a><\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-less\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show less<\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<h4>3.\u00a0 EMERGENCY GENERATORS<\/h4>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<p>There is 1 diesel emergency generator located on the Tusculum University Campus at the loading dock of the Meen Center.\u00a0 The generator at the Meen Center has a storage vessel for 500 gallons of diesel fuel and is used for emergency power at the Meen Center (see Appendix B).\u00a0 The generator does not have secondary containment in place but is on a concrete pad.\u00a0 The saddle tank is of double wall construction and this generator is started once a week and allowed to run for 30 minutes as a means of testing the unit.\u00a0 A spill kit and fire extinguisher is located in the loading dock of the Meen Center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Potential Discharge Causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Due to carelessness or accident filling up<\/li>\n<li>Due to failure or leak in the container<\/li>\n<li>From vehicle collision with the generator<\/li>\n<li>Result of vandalism<\/li>\n<li>Hose rupture, tank rupture, equipment \/ pipe failure, or overfilling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Potential Discharge Volume:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A potential discharge from the emergency generator could result in 500 gallons of diesel being released.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Discharge Pathway:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A discharge from a generator could be contained on the concrete or could be absorbed into the surrounding soil and could potentially infiltrate ground water.<\/li>\n<li>A discharge could also flow into the storm water system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-more\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show more<\/span><\/a><\/div><div class=\"su-expand-link su-expand-link-less\" style=\"text-align:left\"><a href=\"javascript:;\" style=\"color:#FF671B;border-color:#FF671B\"><span style=\"border-color:#FF671B\">Show less<\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<h4>4.\u00a0 ELEVATORS<\/h4>\n<div class=\"su-expand su-expand-collapsed su-expand-link-style-default\" data-height=\"0\"><div class=\"su-expand-content su-u-trim\" style=\"color:#333333;max-height:0px;overflow:hidden\">\n<p>There are 5 elevators located on the Tusculum University campus.\u00a0 Each elevator contains at least 55 gallons of hydraulic oil.\u00a0 (see appendix B)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Potential Discharge Causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Failure or leak in hydraulic oil reservoir<\/li>\n<li>Due to carelessness or accident during reservoir fill up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Potential Discharge Volume:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A potential discharge from the elevator reservoir could result in 5 gallons up to 120 gallons being released.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Discharge Pathway:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All elevators are located inside various buildings throughout the Tusculum University campus. A discharge in any elevator equipment room could be contained in the room, or flow out of the room into other parts of the building.
