{"id":295,"date":"2020-01-29T13:27:46","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T18:27:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.tusculum.edu\/oie\/?page_id=295"},"modified":"2026-03-12T10:50:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T14:50:19","slug":"course-evaluations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.tusculum.edu\/oie\/course-evaluations\/","title":{"rendered":"COURSE EVALUATIONS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Like any college or university, Tusculum University aspires to excellence in teaching.<\/h4>\n<h5>To these ends, one of our tools is the Course Evaluation.\u00a0 In higher education literature, this is known as Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET).<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each semester,<em> all students are offered the opportunity to share their anonymous opinions regarding the courses they take at Tusculum University every term. The institution uses the <\/em><em>IOTA360 platform to collect information regarding student perceptions of teaching toward the end of every semester. Results of these surveys are provided to instructors, department chairs, college deans, and the Provost or Executive Vice President. Student responses can provide continuing insights into a number of the important dimensions of a teacher\u2019s efforts: classroom per\u00adformance, advising, and informal and formal contacts with students outside of class. A variety of ways are available to gather student opinion, ranging from informal questioning of individual students about details of a specific course to campus\u00ad-wide questionnaires.<\/em><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Course evaluations are only as good as a student&#8217;s understanding of the intended purpose of the process.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s some really useful <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/vu-wp0\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2010\/06\/25112035\/Student-Evaluations-of-Teaching.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Suggestions<\/a> from our neighbor, Vanderbilt University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want some Contextual Resources on Teaching and Learning?\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>OIRE is a big fan of the <a href=\"https:\/\/centerofinquiry.org\/practitioners-corner-use-evidence-to-improve-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center of Inquiry<\/a>, based at Wabash College.<\/p>\n<p>OIRE highly recommends material developed by the American Association of Colleges &amp; Universities.\u00a0 \u00a0We especially recommend AACU&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacu.org\/initiatives\/tla-framework\">Teaching and Learning Framework.\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like any college or university, Tusculum University aspires to excellence in teaching.
