Civic Engagement

  • American Democracy Project – The American Democracy Project is a multi-campus initiative that seeks to create an intellectual and experiential understanding of civic engagement for undergraduates. Encourages political engagement.
  • Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) – Based in the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy, CIRCLE conducts, collects, and funds research on the civic and political participation of young Americans. Includes Primary info collected on Election 2008.
  • Council of Independent Colleges Projects – The Engaging Communities and Campuses program helps independent colleges and universities establish partnerships that can enhance experiential learning activities while addressing community needs.
  • Project on Civic Reflection – Civic Reflection is the practice of reading and discussing short pieces of literature as a means of reflecting on the central questions of civic life. This simple practice can help citizens talk more comfortably about values, think more deeply about choices, and respond more imaginatively to the needs of their communities. Civic reflection is now being used by AmeriCorps programs, Rotary clubs, foundations, social service agencies, schools and other civic organizations. Online tools available for printing.
