Founded by Bertram F. Bonner and his wife Corella Allen Bonner, the Bonner Foundation is a national philanthropic organization based in Princeton, New Jersey. In 1997, the Foundation launched the Bonner Leader Program. Today, the Foundation currently works with over 75 institutions. Most students participating in the Bonner Leader Program receive financial support from a combination of Federal Work-Study and AmeriCorps Education Awards.
The mission of the Bonner Leader Program is to transform the lives of students and members, the life of their campus, their local communities, and the world through service and leadership. The Bonner Program is designed to heighten the overall education, students, and members receive by asking the students to engage in ongoing service work and helping them develop the experience, skills, knowledge and values necessary to make that work meaningful and lasting.
Requirements for the Bonner Leader Program:
- Meet required service hours
- Attend weekly meetings
- Participate in group service projects
- Take on program leadership roles
- Specialized service initiatives
