To obtain employment as a certified athletic trainer (ATC), graduates must pass the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. Once the BOC examination has been successfully completed, graduates may also have to apply for athletic trainer licensure in the state they intend to work. To do this, graduates must contact the state regulatory agency for health related professions board and follow the process for licensure or registration. The application process will include submitting an application, licensure/registration fees and a criminal background check. Some states may require an additional state licensing examination. It is the graduate’s responsibility to obtain the proper credentials prior to gaining employment. For more information, go to the BOC web site (http://www.bocatc.org/boc-partners/caate).
